I created this lesson using last years assessment to help my students understand how to answer questions & get them used to understanding what questions are asking for. The lesson looks at 3 questions from component 1 - on muscle actions, heart rate and antagonistic muscle pairs. Includes printable slides to use as support in lesson. The powerpoint breaks down the question & includes model answers & mark schemes to self assess! I have also created a similar lesson for component 2!
GCSE PE Revision - Journey of the blood practical lesson

GCSE PE Revision - Journey of the blood practical lesson

(0)
Created for Edexcel GCSE PE (New Spec 2016) I used this lesson as a practical way of teaching the theory of how deoxygenated blood becomes oxygenated. I had previously taught a lesson on this so the students had a prior understanding of the heart & blood vessles, and used this as a consolidation lesson / to address misconceptions. The starter recaps previous learning to label the features of the heart. The rest of the lesson students work in small groups following the journey that blood takes around the body. I did this in the sports hall as there was more space available! Worksheet included to give some writing tasks to support the lesson. Students really enjoyed the lesson!

GCSE PE Long answer question revision / practice Edexcel 2016 Spec - Component 1 - Muscle fibers

GCSE PE Long answer question revision / practice Edexcel 2016 Spec - Component 1 - Muscle fibers

(0)
Created to support students with long answer (9 mark) questions in assessments. Question based on muscle fibers for a 5000m runner! I used a similar lesson to help them write developed statements on shorter responses which they found really useful (lesson resources available - writing developed statements). This lesson focuses on building those same writing skills to 9 mark questions to help them write extended answers with more success. Lots of my students either wrote lots of simple statements, which restricts them to only 3 marks. Or they wrote the explanation / analysis without the statements / definitions first. This lesson worked really well to support them in writing more concise, and successful answers. Format of the lesson is to give them the 9 mark question first, I then did some general revision / Q&A / discussion on different topics as a break between answers, and then got them to re-write their answers after discussing how to answer it with more success. Finishing off with a peer assessment task to compare answers. I then asked them to look back through other 9 mark questions we have done, choose one and have a go using the same structure!

GCSE PE - Live Lessons - Health & Performance (Edexcel)

3 lessons created to deliver remotely on Teams to my GCSE PE group whilst they were isolating at home. Powerpoint includes: Lesson on topic 1 - Health, fitness & well-being (focusing on lifestyle choices & diet). Lesson on topic 2 - Sport Psychology (focusing on feedback & mental preparation). Lesson on topic 3 - Socio-cultural influences (focusing on influences on participation & sporting behaviours). Each lesson contains: Starter activity to define key words from the topic. Topic recap of everything that is included in the topic. Content slides to recap a particular area of the topic (this was chosen based on their performance in the most recent mock assessment). 4 practice questions with PowerPoint timers & self-assessment slides. 9 mark answer to set on Teams after the live lesson has finished. My group enjoyed being able to still complete some revision at home in the format of a normal lesson. Students only need a pen & paper to complete the work so it is easily accesible & requires no handouts to be provided before students are isolating.
GCSE PE - Assessment / Progress Tracker

GCSE PE - Assessment / Progress Tracker

(0)
This is an excel spreadsheet which I have developed to monitor progress of the GCSE PE cohort & also speed up a lot of data analysis work! Spreadsheet includes: Overview tab which demonstrates progress over time & performance in all 6 assessments. Individual assessment tabs to show marks scored in each question. Staff need to update the tracker by inputting individual question marks into the correct assessment tab - the total score, % and WAG are automatically generated, as well as the overview tab at the front. Each question is RAG rated to show which questions need to be revised! PPT instructions file included. Includes 6 end of topic assessments & mark schemes. *Note that the tracker is set up to be used alongside these assessments - using different assessments will require the exam tabs to be amended.

KS3 PE Theory lessons – Year 7 – Anatomy & physiology / Health, fitness and well-being

(0)
These lessons were created to be embedded into the KS3 curriculum and give students a taste of what studying PE at KS4 entails. The aim of these lessons is to give students a basic understanding of key topics studied in GCSE PE and engage students in a different way of learning in KS3 PE lessons which would normally be completely practically based. Students will complete one theory lesson during each block of practical lessons throughout the year (one theory lesson every 6-7 weeks). Throughout KS3 students should develop a basic understanding of all topics before starting GCSE PE in year 10. The lessons were tailored to the Edexcel GCSE PE (2016) specification and each year group focuses on a different topic within their lessons. *Would be suitable for other GCSE PE qualifications with similar content. *Also useful as a wet weather / cover lesson to keep students engaged in a classroom. Included: 7 lessons based around one ‘Big Question’ on Anatomy & Physiology and Health, Fitness and well-being. A graphic organiser / booklet which can be printed out and given to students to work in each lesson (in place of working in an exercise book). A PowerPoint with all 7 lessons – Each lesson including… o Title slide o Engage/starter tasks o Shared learning outcomes – using big & small question o Share new information – Students fill in the blanks in their booklets to gather new information shared in the lesson. o Mini plenaries to check understanding throughout the lesson. o Tasks – Application activities where students demonstrate their learning. o Final task is to complete the ‘small question’ for the lesson which involves an extended answer. Hints included to support students with what to include and a ‘WAGOLL’ of what a good one looks like! o Plenary task to wrap up the lesson. Links to GCSE curriculum: Each lesson includes GCSE content which has been simplified / scaffolded to be suitable for younger students. Extended answers to the small question at the end of the lesson use the same ‘PEB’ structure that is encouraged at GCSE level (Point, Explain, Benefit). *Some videos which were initially embedded into the PPT have been removed to reduce file size. Links for the videos have been posted into the slides.

Applying principles of training SOW - Cambridge National Level 2 Sport Science (R042)

Full scheme of work for ‘Applying principles of training’ (R042) unit. From Cambridge National Level 2 Sport Science. Scheme of work includes: 121 slide PowerPoint covering all 4 learning outcomes. All lessons centered around a big ‘learning question’ which they work on throughout the unit. (How can training programmes be designed to develop sporting performance?) Each learning outcome contains lessons to develop content & understanding of the topic, with application to tasks / scenarios to prepare them for the assessed work at the end. At the end of each learning outcome is an ‘assessment preparation’ task which provides information on the assessed piece of work, mark scheme and what needs to be included. LO3 includes interactive PPT slides where students can navigate themselves to the fitness test information they want to find out - by clicking on hyperlinked buttons within the PPT (view on slide show to access). Also included: Fitness testing record sheets Fitness testing protocols & normative data PAR-Q 6 week training programme template This scheme of work has been developed alongside a series of practical based fitness lessons to secure understanding of the theory covered in the SOW. I have provided students access to this PowerPoint using MS Teams so they have the information they need to write their assignments.
